How to Use the Charging Time Calculator
It’s super easy to use the calculator. Just follow these simple steps:
- Select Your Battery Size: Enter your EV’s battery size in kilowatt-hours (kWh). You can find this in your vehicle manual or manufacturer specs.
- Enter Your Current Charge Level: Input the current percentage of charge in your battery.
- Set Your Target Charge Level: Choose the percentage you want to charge to, whether it’s 100% for a full charge or something lower (80% maximum recommended). Please make sure that the target charge level is higher than the starting charge level.
- Input the Charging Power (kW): Remember, charging power may be limited by either the charging station or your vehicle. Always check the maximum charging power of both and use the lower value to calculate your charging time. You can see an example in the table below.
Example 1 | Example 2 | |
---|---|---|
Maximum charging power of the vehicle | 22 kW | 3.4 kW |
Maximum charging power of the charge outlet | 11 kW | 7 kW |
Charging power in kW | 11 kW | 3.4 kW |
- Get Your Result: The calculator will show you how long it’ll take to charge your EV based on your inputs. That’s it!
To calculate your daily charging time or charging time for a specific distance, follow these steps:
- Distance Unit: Choose whether you want to measure distance in miles or kilometers.
- Daily Distance: Enter how many miles or kilometers you drive each day.
- Energy Consumption (kWh): Input your vehicle’s energy consumption per 100 miles or kilometers.

FAQ
Input your vehicle’s battery size, current charge level, target charge level, and charger power into the calculator. It will estimate the total time needed.
Charging time depends on the vehicle’s battery size, charger power, current charge level, and charging capacity of both the charger and vehicle.
Charging speed can be limited by the charger’s power, the vehicle’s maximum charging capacity, or temperature conditions. Always use the correct charger for your EV and ensure it’s operating at full capacity.
Yes, but the charging time will vary. If the charger’s power is lower than your EV’s maximum charging rate, it will take longer. If the charger’s power is higher, the EV will charge only as fast as its maximum capacity allows.
Yes, many EVs slow down charging after reaching 80% to protect the battery, which means charging from 80% to 100% typically takes more time.
Yes, you can use the calculator to estimate the charging time based on a specific distance by entering your vehicle’s energy consumption and the distance you’ll travel.
Occasional fast charging is fine, but frequent use can degrade the battery over time. It’s best to use slower charging methods for regular, everyday charging.
